"Oh, you wanted to sleep?" says the Rabbit.  "Meh."

Rabbit had us fooled and spoiled, with 6 to 10 hours of straight sleeping for nearly a whole month.  But a week and a half ago he got sick, and since then he hasn't sleep for more than 2 hours at a time.  And when he is sleeping, he's only doing it with my breast as a pillow, which is not exactly convenient.  When I think he's asleep, I verrrry caaaaarefulllly pick him up to gently rock him and then verrrrry slooooowly put him in his crib... only to find that he wakes up wailing within 15 minutes.  Sometimes he won't even tolerate being put down in his crib at all at night!

At first I thought it was just sickness related, but he's really not sick any more.  So I turned to the interwebs and all their wisdom.  The interwebs says that we are suffering from the (scary music please) FOUR MONTH SLEEP REGRESSION.  Blast!  Well, he is exactly four months and one day old now, so I suppose this makes sense.  Unfortunately, it seems there is nothing we can do about it except wait it out, for up to 6 weeks!  Apparently at four months there's a lot of development going on, and none of it requires his mother to sleep.

Rabbit now notices everything!  Last night he spent an hour examining Daddy Rabbit's shirt instead of nursing.  And often he's more into the book I'm trying to read while he nurses than the nipple.  Now that Rabbit can grab things, the whole world is much more accessible.  And this past week he learned to roll over from his back to his front, and shimmy his way towards his toys.

So there's no time for sleep, and I guess we'll just have to learn to deal with that.
